Happy Halloween

Today was a full day of Halloween activities. Everyone one got into costume and we headed to Kenzie's school for the kindergarten parade. Then it was off to Finn's preschool for a parade around the high school and a class party. In the afternoon we headed back over to Kenzie's school for her class Halloween party. Then it was home to relax for a little while before we headed out for some trick or treating. We met up with some friends and hit the neighborhood. There was no complaining and everyone got lots of candy. Emme even caught on after a while and wanted to walk up to the doors, and see if anyone would give her candy.

Time to carve our pumpkins

Tonight we finally had pumpkins for everyone, so we sat down to decorate them while listening to a little spooky music. Kenzie and Finn wanted to paint theirs. Jim decided to make "Jack" the jack-o-lantern from the Nightmare before Christmas. We painted Emersyn's hand and foot to make prints on the pumpkin. It didn't really work out, she just wanted to keep patting the pumpkin, but she had fun being part of the act. When the big kids saw this they wanted to make hand prints too, so we painted their hands and let them stamp some paper. It was a very messy but fun evening in the Malcolm house.

Trick or Treating on Grant

Today we took the kids to Grant Street for the safe trick or treating event. This is a fun activity where the kids go into all the local shops and are given candy, toys and other goodies. This year we also received toothbrushes, notepads, pens and one package of Kleenex (just for Mom). We saw lots of friends from school and playgroup out on the street. We even surprised the kids with a visit from Anne & Levi. As it got later, it became too hot out and bunnies were melting so we headed home for a little lunch. Then Levi took Kenzie & Finn for a little bike riding.

Oh no the Big 40!

This years Jim's big birthday, so I wanted to do something really special. I made reservations for a very adult dinner at SPQR on Fillmore in San Francisco. We were so out of practice we had to ask the waitress for help. We decided anything that wasn't macaroni & cheese would taste good, so we tried a little bit of everything. After a delicious dinner and an even better dessert we headed to The Fillmore to see "The Airborne Toxic Event". Sounds scary, but really just a fun band that we've downloaded and enjoy listening to. The Fillmore is a great venue that has seen the likes of Janis Joplin and the The Grateful Dead. Before the show we enjoyed walking around and looking at all the different posters from past performances. Once the show started we were happy to see we weren't the oldest in the crowd. There were definitely a few parents out for the night. It was a much needed us night, and so much fun...but we paid for it the next morning. I wish you could explain to kids that we sleep in on Saturdays!

Well Monday was Jim's actual birthday, so I had to have a little fun with it. I employed Dawn to be my partner in crime and help me gain access to Jim's office. After making up some excuses about needing to do some shopping I snuck out Sunday evening to decorate Jim's office. I covered the room in confetti, balloons and left him a full sheet cake. Dawn got him a giant poster of Justin Bieber for his office door. (Everyone loved that!) Monday morning the first phone call of the day was "You sneaky, sneaky woman!" Well it defiantly made it an entertaining birthday.  Jim will be cleaning confetti out of his office for a while! The kids and I sang to him after dinner with a little carrot cake ( his fav). Followed by a few fun presents, new tee shirts and everyone's favorite new underwear:)

NMC Halloween Party

Today was the NMC Halloween party, one of our favorite events to get in the Halloween spirit. Some of the activities they had this year were the local fire trucks,  the bubble man, face painting, Mr C. the science guy, and craft projects.

Birthday Fun

While the Baysdens were here we decided to celebrate some of our families birthdays. Emersyn turning one, Emalee turning three and Jim turning... We got dessert from Sift cupcakes. They were recently on Food Networks cupcake wars and are known for their unusual concoctions .  We tried the Stud Muffin, Samoa(like the cookie), All for the cookie and pink champagne. They were pretty scrumptious. The kids were pretty happy with them! Who doesn't love a good cupcake.
